.........................................-- 2nd Battery Mount --
...................
As has been mentioned before there will be 2 batteries in the car. One for the motor and water pumps and a second for data acquisition. The box is for the 1st battery and it's construction was describe a couple pages back. I decided to mount the 2nd battery on the end of the 1st using the strap on that end. A plate (arrow) was cut and two holes drilled in it to allow access to bolts that hold the first battery box on. The piece was then tacked onto the first battery's end strap (arrow).
...................
The sketch (arrow) shows what I kind of had in mind, but I changed it a little during construction. The two bent straps are the ones in the sketch above and below the arrow.
...................
The two straps (lower right two arrows) were tacked on to the end strap of the first battery mount. Two vertical straps were added on the ends of the battery and a top strap (top arrow) along with another piece (not shown) will hold the battery in place.
...................
All of this was then finished welded. The straps at the back with the bent tops are the end of the mount for the first battery. The rest was added as described above.
...................
A bolt was then welded to a small piece of strap. This piece will push down on the battery and keep it from moving.
...................
The finished battery holder in place. There will be a main disconnect as per the rules that will disconnect the main battery. The small battery will be connected to it's circuits through a relay that is powered by the first battery. If the power to the main battery is cutoff with the safety disconnect the relay will no longer have power and the second battery will be cut off from it's circuits.
